Volume 16 Number 5
Another excellent title from Bobbie Kalman's "In My World" series. Our Earth describes the physical geography of the earth and its land forms-mountains, rivers, islands, caverns, the ocean bed, the rain forest, savanna, the desert, the Arctic, hurricanes and volcanoes, as well as the effects of pollution on the environment. The format is the same as that of the companion volume, Natural Resources* with large, colourful illustrations, a short text alongside, and picture discussion questions at the bottom of the page. The "Let's Explore" section provides simple, up-to-date information on our solar system and planets and includes a large illustration. The activity page includes Instructions for making an erupting volcano and a "mini-jungle." The table of contents permits easy access to information, and there is a "dictionary" page. This would be an excellent volume to use in the classroom along with Natural Resources for community or area studies around the world. The colourful illustrations and cover, as well as the inviting, simply written text, will make this non-fiction book a popular one for Primary and Junior students as well as for teachers.
