A Laurentian Library edition was published in 1968 and was reprinted in 1972 and 1975. This edition is the same as the Laurentian Library edition but has a new and brighter cover. The Sacrifice is the story of Abraham, a devoutly religious Jew, who has brought his wife, Sarah, and his only remaining son, Isaac, to begin a new life in Canada. Two older sons have been killed in the Ukraine in a pogrom. All Abraham's hopes now rest with Isaac. The plot unfolds against a colourful, background of Jewish community life in a western Canadian city. Tragically, Abraham loses Isaac, too, but not before a grandson, Moses, has been born. Suitable as-a novel for study at the senior level, The Sacrifice concerns the universal conflicts between youth and old age, life and death, love and destruction.
