Lewis Volume 16 Number 6 1988 November Gzowski has done it again—solid writing sprinkled with wit and Incisive reflection. This time his subject is his old Alma Mater. Although the actual text is limited to a few dozen pages, the editing and the photographs chosen from a remarkable archival collection are the book's real strengths. Ridley College is not only a notable private school with a legitimate history of its own, it is also part of the educational fabric of the country. Its history is a reflection of changes in educational philosophy, architecture, style and emphases. The book begins with an extensive and clearly nostalgic introduction of Gzowski's impressions of the school as he experienced it in the early 1950s. What follows is a treasury of photographs, documents and memorabilia, which evenly reflect the first century of the life of the school. This is certainly a browsing sort of book that will naturally appeal to those with some connection with the school. However, it is a worthy read for anyone interested in Canadian educational history.
