Jack Shaw has spent over half a century fishing the lakes around Kamloops, B.C., teaching fly-tying and casting to adults. In Fly Fish the Trout Lakes, he brings the full weight of his personal experience to bear upon the problems stream fishermen encounter when confronted by a lake full of rainbow trout. Although the book is somewhat limited by its subject (i.e. flyfishing for lake rainbows), many of Shaw's observations will be of help to stream fishermen. This book contains a fair amount of technical and scholarly information presented in understandable terms. A major section of the book is devoted to the growth and feeding habits of the main species of insects found in most lakes. There are excellent black-and-white illustrations and photos augmented by twenty-four colour shots. Although My Fish the Trout Lakes may be an excellent addition to the leisure section of your personal library, it would probably find little curricular application.
