The names of Janet and John Foster are well known to nature lovers in Canada. Janet Foster has already written two books for children--A Cabin Full of Mice (Greey de Pencier, 1980) and The Wilds of Whip-poor-will Farm.* Children will be familiar, too, with her articles and stories about wild animals in OWL and Chickadee.

Journey to the Top of the World is designed so that its illustrations (colour photographs taken mostly by the Fosters) are found on the same page as the corresponding text. A map shows the course of the journey and clearly conveys just how far north the Fosters travelled. During their journey the Fosters met scientists of several disciplines who introduced them to their work conquering past mysteries and exploring future possibilities of the Arctic.

Juveniles will like Foster's accounts of wild life—seals, narwhals, caribou, arctic hares and wolves, snow geese, polar bears, muskoxen and more. The clear, concise text will be greeted with enthusiasm by ten-year-olds and octogenarians.
