Notebook of Stone is a collection of thoughts evoked by the author's sojourn near the Himalayas in Tibet, a visit to East Berlin, and a return to the same Indian village. With its simplicity of language, the book conveys the intense emotion in her response to the countryside, the people, the dryness, the mountains, and the stones. In the Berlin section, her thoughts come following her experiences at the Berlin wall, at social gatherings and with the young women who became her friends. Because, at times, the style becomes quite vague and obscure, the book is not suitable as a text for elementary or intermediate students. Perhaps some seniors, especially those in creative writing classes, would find it stimulating. Yet the author's sincerity and strong feelings make poetry lovers appreciative of her alms and their fulfillment. School and public librarians will want to purchase this book. I look forward to reading more of the thoughts and Intuitions of this writer.
