In these days of disillusionment with high-profile Canadian athletes, this book should restore confidence in the dedication of at least this one. Brian Orser started skating at the age of five in 1966, and from that time on his life revolved around training and the difficult task of finding time for both school work and skating. Despite three fractures and a case of pneumonia (at which time he was allowed very little medication "because of the strict drug testing rules set by international sports authorities"), Orser persevered to become world champion figure skater in Cincinnati in 1987. Both his triumphs and disappointments are well documented. With an attractively designed cover, large print, and many photos in black and white as well as colour, this little book will have instant appeal in elementary and junior high libraries. Joan M.
