He has been producing for over forty years and is surrounded by progeny. Will his progeny breed? The limpidity of many of the poems in this collection might be seen as limpness; readers might not find that they are inspired to create multiplying images. There is a forty-page section, "Wee Mac," which is a series of connected poems on William Lyon Mackenzie containing a great many direct quotations, apparently from the time. There is another section, "Hogtown Histories," which might be diverting for Toronto dwellers who want to visit or revisit sites without getting out of bed. There are fifteen pages of family history and ten pages of a talking kite. There are preachy poems like "Giggle Girl" and " in Front of Dr. Morgentaler's Clinic." And there are the simple, limpid little poems that you can see right through: The gift of Thanksgiving: you and I still together--as it was meant to be! Any student will be able to swallow these poems without a struggle. Each one will have to decide if "asking for more" is worthwhile. Ian Dempsey, Cambridge, Ont.
