CIP Professional Reviewed by Ted Monkhouse Volume 17 Number 3 1989 May All librarians who work with or for young people can't help but know Fay Blostein, the lady who did what we all wished someone would do, i.e., match book titles and themes in Invitations, Celebrations* and New Paperbacks for Young Adults: A Thematic Guide, volumes 1 and 2 (OLA, 1979 and 1981). Now there's another, combining thematically arranged reviews with activities for the context of the reading. The book's arrangement is aimed at both young people and teachers and librarians. For sixty-four pages, under a generalized theme of "I Look at Myself—My Hopes, My Fears, My Strengths," more specific queries and suggestions about "self1 are followed by titles and page numbers. The suggested activities should be welcomed by young people as refreshing. The bulk of the book follows with 196 pages of annotated references listed alphabetical by title, awards, age appeal, related books, the specific subjects addressed by the book, and the regular bibliographic information are included with each entry when appropriate. The book concludes with a subject index. Obviously, Connections should be in every teacher's and librarian's hands. Students should be alerted to it.
