First of all, it is a unique book because it uses materials created by Canadian students and this, I believe, will heighten its appeal as a teaching text. It should also appeal to educators because it is a year-long lesson plan for the teaching of every imaginable aspect of the research method. Topics range from the more obvious such as choosing a topic to interesting and unusual aspects like compiling a glossary and illustrating the paper. Each of the six chapters includes expository information needed for the research process as well as related models, charts and exercises. Interview sheets, inquiry letters, questionnaires, bibliographic cards, note cards, drafts, outlines, graphs—all this and more is covered in Search and Shape. This well-organized text concludes with "A Handbook of Useful Tools," which includes three research papers we follow from conception to finished product. A bibliography and index are found on the final pages. It would be difficult to find another book which does as thorough and as excellent a job as this one does.
