AUNTIE'S KNITTING A BABY.
Kids Records, 1984. Cassette. $9.98.
Volume 17 Number 3
This is a delightful collection of poems sure to engage listeners. Voice inflection is well done, and the readings paint vivid pictures. Follow-ups are numerous and are only limited by the presenter's (teacher's) imagination. Simmie's book is a winner: the pieces are perfectly suited to the experience and imagination of young people. The two actors who read them, Claire Coulter and Eric Peterson, work in tandem and separately. They tend to want to jazz up the presentation, and there are occasionally some annoying sound effects. This is fun as a read-along but a good "read-alouder" can do just as well if not better. Recommended with reservations.
