Volume 17 Number 4
Dr. William Schulz is head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. His book is the fourth in McClelland and Stewart's "The Skills for Life" series, which has been created for high school and continuing education students. Throughout the book the writer develops definitions of the principles of communication-listening, responding, expressing feelings, perception, etc.-and then suggests assignments to demonstrate the processes he has defined. He recommends considerable role playing and an analytical use of a journal. The book has value for high school, university and general libraries for reference and counsellors. It provides an introduction to psychological terms and material in common use today. The material is most attractively presented in a strongly bound paperback. The layout is extremely effective with an appealing use of pictures, cartoons (Peanuts) and diagrams. Mary Fallis, Prince George, B.C. |
