Volume 17 Number 4
Twelve psychologists representing the major schools of thought in modern psychology are featured in this volume. Freud and Jung, Lewin, Piaget and Maslow-to name a few-and their views of human nature as well as their methodology and perspective are described and evaluated by the author. The scope of the book is from pre-1893 to post-1969. The author's purpose is to bring each of the twelve to life with a biographical sketch and a brief synopsis of the psychologist's theories. Kunkel humanizes each by means of a conversation. The encounters, for the most part, are with historical persons; however, some characters are fictional. It is in these encounters that the psychologists' views are revealed. Kunkel fulfils his purpose very adequately, and he reveals his sources for the dialogues, i.e., historical documents or events. The organization permits very easy access to the information based on a detailed source list for each psychologist. The layout facilitates use and the type is easy to read. This volume will fill both curricular and personal needs. M.R. Stirling, Yorkton, Sask. |
