LET'S PLAY BALL! INSIDE THE PERFECT GAME
William Humber
Toronto, Lester & Orpen Dennys. 1989. 160pp, paper, $19.95
Volume 17 Number 4
Humber is a curatorial assistant for an exhibition of baseball artifacts prepared by the Royal Ontario Museum. This publication was prepared as a companion volume to that exhibition. It is a history of baseball, but rather than being a chronological relation of events it delves into scientific and social aspects of the game. The text is supplemented by a plentiful choice of archival photographs. The result is a pleasing publication sure to be of interest to baseball fans -- especially the older nostalgia buffs. Another merit of this volume is its Canadian content. Let's Play Ball would make a worthwhile addition to sports collections in high school libraries, either as a source of information or as browsing material.
