Volume 17 Number 5 1989 September This slender book, volume II in the Canada Heirloom series, records the legacy of Canada's first peoples for generations to come. It is the work of nine knowledgeable Canadians, three of whom are members of our first nations. Each of these contributors bears excellent qualifications for the written and illustrative work they have done in this book. This book on Canadian Native peoples covers the heritage, culture and history from the east coast to the west. A section on each group gives their geographical location, early history of their forms of government, educational systems, industries and skills, and beliefs and mythology. Each section closes with an overall view of the tribe's position in the world today. The style of writing is geared for junior and senior secondary schools. There is much interesting detail written in an easy-to-understand way. The book is enhanced by excellent artwork which includes stamps, maps photographs and paintings. Each page has at least one picture placed so as to produce a very attractive format. Printed on heavy glossy paper in easy-to-read print, the book is well organized with both table of contents and index. A definite must for all school libraries. Mollie Hooper, Qualicum Beach, BC.
