Judi Pennanen is a long-lime book illustrator. Among her credits are three children's books from Penumbra Press: Little Stitch (1986), by Margaret Bunel Edwards, The Secret Code of DNA, by Mary Razzell, and Riding High, by Colleen Rutherford Archer. Pennanen has now successfully combined her poetry writing with her book illustrating talents for this delightful children's book, Heads or Tails. The poetry flows over and around the full- and double-page graphite pencil illustrations. Her humorous Leon the lion has large, soulful eyes and a very interesting tail. His troubles begin when his tail develops a mind of its own and begins to tell him what to do. This playful story could be used in a classroom discussion of using compromise to get along with others. The easy-flowing, rhyming text makes Heads or Tails a suitable bedtime story for young children. Hazel Birt, Winnipeg, Man. |
