Volume 18 Number 2 1990 March CBC sportscaster Connor has com�piled a series of interesting glimpses into the everyday life of a variety of sports personalities, mostly from the latter part of the twentieth century. These short anecdotes are written in newspaper or magazine-filler style. While the majority of the stories are of the hockey, football or baseball variety, various other sports are represented in the collection. I found many of the stories to be interesting looks at the human side of the sports personalities rather than the usual relation of their athletic achieve�ments. For example, there is Muhammed Ali throwing his Olympic gold medal into the river, Sam Snead on his golf adventures with President Eisenhower, and Peter Gzowski on his experiences in the Edmonton Oilers training camp. There seems to be no perceivable arrangement to the stories, though they do seem to come in chronological order. There is a name index. The book would make an interesting evening of reading for a sports buff familiar with the names of the people involved in the stories. Because many of the stories date back more than ten years, many of the personalities may be unfamiliar to high school students and consequently the book may have limited appeal in a school library.
