JUMBO GUMBO: SONGS, POEMS AND STORIES FOR CHILDREN
Edited by Wenda McArthur and Geoffrey Ursell.
Volume 18 Number 2
This delightful collection of songs, poems and stories is an excellent addition to school and personal libraries. The material is varied in subject and style. Also included is a French song, "Petit Bébé," a native selection, "The Ghost of Lake Katepwa," and humorous drawings by Bill Johnson. The "gumbo" is divided into three sections: "Kidstuff," "Rhyme a Word or Two," and "Moans and Groans." There are sixteen songs with lyrics included as poetry on a separate page. Music for piano and chords for guitar are included. Wenda McArthur and Geoffrey Ursell, who edited Prairie Jungle ¹, bring a variety of Canadian contributors together in this collection. The large print and easy-to-read type make this collection appealing. Lots of laughter and smiles are in store for children and adults alike.Deborah Mervold, Shellbrook Composite School, Shellbrook, SK. ¹ Reviewed vol. XIV/4 July 1986, p.l85. |
