Nature What's It? is OWL's second photo puzzle book following What's it? Gadgets, Objects, Machines and More The book consists of full-colour photographs on the odd-numbered pages followed by detailed explanations on the even-numbered pages. Readers of OWL Magazine are familiar with the What's It? puzzles. This book provides the audience with stunning close-up photographs from nature. The reader is challenged to identify the unknown object. Brief clues are provided. The solutions supply not only the answers but also some fascinating facts. The purpose of these puzzles is to encourage children to examine their natural surroundings in a new way. Just as the reader tries to solve the puzzle by noting unusual detail, so this technique can be transferred when the children look at nature "close-up." Nature What's It? will appeal to a wide range of ages. Young readers will need help with reading the solutions, as some of the terminology will be unfamiliar to them. The format is simple and attractive. The informative answers and amazing facts are boxed and numbered for clear identification. The close-up photography is excellent. Although this is a puzzle book, it lends itself to rereading and perusing several times. This book combines entertainment with learning. Janice Foster, Winnipeg, Man. |
