WHAT'S THAT NOISE?
Michèle Lemieux.
Volume 18 Number 2
Waking from hibernation, Brown Bear hears "funny little noises." The noise does not go away, but stays with him. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, he listens to his noise and to the other sounds around him, while he tries to answer the question, What's that noise?" Translated from the German Was Hört der Bär?, What's That Noise? is illustrated by Québec artist Michèle Lemieux. Her soft-hued illustrations are full of colour and movement. Brown Bear's world teems with life and with sounds - cheeping baby birds, croaking frogs, friendly fish and splashing water. He even has an amusing adventure with a hard-working farmer and his wife. Brown Bear, with a pink scarf around his neck and a smile on his face, appears to dance through the changing seasons. His world is one of green meadows dotted with wildflowers, a lush sun-streaked forest, golden autumnal fields, and a cozy cave beneath the snow-swept landscape. Just as Brown Bear settles down for the next winter's hibernation, he discovers the answer to his question - an answer that is sure to delight the youngest listener of this charming tale.Joanne Robertson, Winnipeg, MB.
