This is a unique collection of short stories written by eleven Canadian authors while they were living abroad. Among the contributors are Margaret Laurence and Mavis Gallant, whose work appears along with the work of new writers like Sara McDonald and Steven Heighten. The subjects vary from semi-autobiographical reminiscences to sociological commentary, making this an interesting collection for secondary students studying the countries or authors included. Taken together, the stories shed some light on the Canadian identity and provide a meaningful context for stories that were often considered "ineligible for inclusion in Canadian literature."
