The incessant bombardment of advertising jingles has prejudiced me against messages conveyed in catchy tunes, but I found myself enjoying these. The songs are very well done. The lyrics work as songs as well as messages and the music and sound effects are very effective. Writer Bill Iveniuk and Denise Duncan worked for "Sesame Street" and Shirley Eikhard and Graham Shaw are Juno Award winners. The points made are significant (water is not made anew but constantly recycled through the biosphere), dramatic (the migration of the Monarch butterfly from all over North America to one spot in Mexico), and practical (fight air pollution by leaving the car at home and walking to the corner store). The thirty-two-page activity book has little in it. The songs, I believe, have a wider appeal. My six-year-old son enjoyed them as did his mixed grade class of grades 1, 2 and 3.
