Volume 19 Number 1
Mrs. Kitchen's Cats is a wonderfully whimsical and humorous romp through Ken Ward's world. This collection of over sixty poems invites the reader to take a fanciful and imaginative look at the many everyday things of our life. heather has her bubble bath
clink, clink, clink The poems are short, full of vivid images and presented in a variety of styles. Children will delight in the play on words, the large size and bold print of some words, and the many concrete poems that roam all over the pages. Little punctuation and very few capital letters are used. The book is well designed with reinforced binding and a brightly illustrated hardboard cover. Ken Ward's doodles are used to add even more whimsy to the overall presentation. This book is similar to his other publication for Annick,Twelve Kids One Cow, although the new book is longer and better designed. Parents and teachers wanting to motivate children to read and write poetry will find these poems helpful in making poetry accessible in a fun and imaginative way. Recommended.
