Rock Demers is back with an action filled mystery adventure children will enjoy. Demers is the producer of such highly acclaimed and popular films for young people as The Dog Who Stopped the War, Operation Peanut Butter, Tommy Tricker and The Stamp Traveller. The central theme is timely. If concerns the need to foster understanding between people of different ages and races. It is an eventful summer for twelve-year-old Melanie. She has invited her pen-pal to visit her. Florence, who unexpectedly turns out to be black, gives Melanie a copy of Saint-Exupery's Little Prince. Inspired by the story of the little prince who tamed a fox, Melanie decides to "tame" the village witch. Everything is going well until burglars steal the old lady's most precious possessions. The ineptness of the police forces Melanie and Florence, with the help of Melanie's mischievous brother and other friends, to find the thieves and save a heart-broken old woman. The technical quality of the colour, sound and photography in this production is excellent. The dubbing of the English version is well done. French Immersion students will find the French version easily understandable; the enunciation is clear and the vocabulary is contemporary. The pacing of the action is swift; the perspective shifts from Melanie and the other children to the old lady. The main characters are believable and likeable. Highly recommended.
