Volume 19 Number 3 1991 May Corky Crocodile and Allie Alligator are best friends who part company each day with the familiar, "See you later, Alligator," and "In a while, Crocodile." Their easy camaraderie is abruptly disrupted when Allie gets a new pair of shoes, which he delights in showing off to his friend. The battle of one-upmanship that follows threatens to end their friendship. The heat of the competition is overwhelmed by the heat of the jungle, however, and the friends are happily reunited. Yvonne Cathcart's brightly coloured illustrations with their bold borders set a tropical mood and readers will enjoy picking out the assortment of jungle creatures included on each page.
