Volume 19 Number 3 1991 May For his fifteenth book, Korman returns once again to Macdonald Hall with the familiar Bruno and Boots, assorted fellow students, their longsuffering teachers, and the girls from Miss Scrimmage's boarding school across the road. Macdonald Hall has been chosen as the location for a new movie starring the popular teenage film star, Jordie Jones. When Bruno decides he wants a small part as an extra in the movie, he proceeds with his plans with the help of the others, much to the consternation of the movie crew and Mr. Fish, the school administrator. Once Bruno and Boots discover that Jordie, rather than being a conceited movie idol, is really rather miserable, they decide to adopt him as a cohort in their zany schemes. From appearing incognito at the girls' school dance, attending a poker session after curfew, encouraging Jordie to help out the school hockey team, to finally having Jordie include himself in the school's annual wilderness survival trip affectionately known as "Die-in-the-woods," all plans somehow manage to go awry, bringing hilarious consequences for the boys. Korman shows his strength with this particular kind of novel in his fastmoving pace, his comic touch with dialogue, and his understanding of what makes boys this age tick. The characters, although only briefly sketched, are consistent and enjoyable. Even the adults manage to be not too foolish.
