THE RECYCLING BOOK

Volume 20 Number 2
This is another book from the editors of OWL magazine. Its writer, Elizabeth MacLeod, has divided into groups the various types of wastes that the average household would normally discard. There are chapters on plastic, paper, glass, and metal and finally natural stuff. In each chapter there are five or six ideas suggested and each idea has a black-and-white illustration plus instructions. Many of the illustrations are cartoon in style and would be appreciated by young readers. Toys, gifts, and useable articles make up the bulk of the ideas presented. There is a table of contents but no index. Included are the addresses of five environmentally concerned groups. Most of the ideas are aimed at early elementary students, but older students could choose many of these ideas, as well. This book could be of use to introduce the arts and crafts section of a unit on recycling. Hugh A. Cook, Maple, Ont. |
