Sarah, a little girl with a sore throat, has gone to the hospital for a tonsillectomy. Her two friends, puppets Ruffus and Andy, decide that she must be rescued from such a "scary" place and they set off determined to carry out the rescue. Once at the hospital, they meet several hospital personnel, who are all friendly and helpful. Several topics are discussed, such as "why is Sarah in hospital?" and "is she sick or bad?" The child life worker takes them on a cursory tour, which includes the nurses' station, a patient room and the operat�ing room. Few of the aspects com�mented on are adequately demon�strated; for example, the viewers, after watching Ruffus and Andy don garb required to enter the operating room, are only given a glimpse of it from the hallway. The most disappointing reference is to the playroom, as very little is shown of that area. Topics that are demonstrated are taking of tempera�ture, use of the call bell to summon a nurse, and the presence of a parent while in hospital. The Rescue could be used to spark discussion concerning fears associated with hospitalization but if not used appropriately could cause more anxiety and confusion than viewers had prior to watching it.
