1992 January

Twelve-year-old Edgar Alain Campeau loves the bizarre and thinks life is not as simple as his parents believe, so he has decided to keep his eyes open and solve a few of life's many mysteries. For instance, take his name. It surely cannot be mere coincidence that his name so closely resembles that of the great writer of weird and unusual tales, Edgar Allan Poe. What's more, they share the same birthday, January 19. Surely a logical case could be made from these facts for reincarnation.

Then, forced to go on a fishing trip with his father, a seasick Edgar has a most mysterious vision of his mother with his father's old friend. Is Edgar Allan Poe trying to tell him something? Has he finally discovered why his sister Emilie bears no resemblance to him or his father? Should he tell his mother he knows her secret? Does he really want to know?

What about the cat Emilie brought home one day? Did it really tell Emilie its name? How else could she possibly name it "William," the same name as her father's old friend? Could it be another case of reincarnation?

Readers will laugh along with Edgar as he leaps from one far-fetched conclusion to the next. Surprises abound.

The short chapters, the many amusing line drawings, and the humour will appeal to young readers.

Recommended for francophone and Immersion students.
