An amusing tale of a young Toronto lawyer who realizes his fantasy of moving to Saskatchewan. Arvind Patel's family picked the province from a map of Canada before leaving India, and he determines to "finish the journey that began forty years ago." The fictional town he settles in is named Sweetgrass, a name with echoes of "the old West" and not to be confused with a real town in Montana that sits astride the 49th parallel. What he encounters is not the wild west of Hollywood's Canada, but the small-town life of the prairies: neighbours arguing about fencing, gossip, an engaging video store owner, a fellow lawyer and a particularly rangy bull. The film ends in a climactic encounter that brings all the participants together and resolves the conflicts neatly. The finished product would be useful in a discussion of cultural stereotypes.
