MUHLA, THE FAIR ONE

Volume 20 Number 2
This bright, oversized (8x11 in.) picture-book is the second publication written by author Linda Ghan and illustrated by Elise Benoit. The story is based on a traditional African folk-tale, and is a version of the Pandora's box story. It is the story of two African sisters who open a forbidden box and suffer the consequences. While the moral values expressed in the book span all cultures, children of non-African backgrounds may find the spiritual folklore a little difficult to understand. The story is well written and the illustrations are bright and colourful, adding to story comprehension. The overall book presentation is excellent and pleasing to the eye. Recommended. Michele F.
