This particular battle takes place in the Tsitika Valley, located on the west coast of B.C. The logging company, MacMillan Bloedel, comes face to face with a group of concerned environmentalists who have blockaded the roads leading to the loggers' cutting sites. We then become spectators at the exchange between the two sides. It needs to be said before continuing that MacMillan Bloedel sponsored and paid for the production of this video. Keeping that in mind, they must be given credit for attempt�ing to present a balanced view of the situation. Both sides have the opportunity to stale their case to each other and to the camera. However, having seen the news reports of the actual exchanges between the two sides, which were acrimonious indeed, I wondered when the dignified and unemo�tional scenes in this film were supposed to have taken place. In fact, the almost complete lack of animosity shown put the credibility of the whole video in question. Moreover, except for one very short clip, the issue of the rights of our native Canadians in this situation were never touched on. The quality of the video was only fair. As well, the sound quality in some of the outdoor encounters left a lot to be desired. There are no answers to this age-old struggle, and this video does not attempt to find any. Although it is slightly slanted in favour of the logging industry, the film still has value as a discussion starter on this very important, emotional and controversial subject.
