CIP Adult Reviewed by Ellen Robson Volume 20 Number 4 1992 September Deathly Delights is the third collection of short stories by Dandurand but the first to be translated into English. This collection, originally entitled L'Assassin de I'interieur/ Diables d'despoie (XYZ, 1988), is translated by Luise von Flotow. Described as a "fierce iconoclast," Dandurand focuses on distressed women who are victims of erotic encounters and unrequited love. Murder, suicide and death dominate this collection of urban stories. The first and best story, "Inside Killer," focuses on a woman, a frightened victim of sexual harassment, who takes revenge and dies in her own trap. In this and subsequent stories, doll collections reinforce the theme of loving without being loved. The few men in the stories are portrayed as abusive or useless. Overall, this is not a pleasant read and there are better collections of stories on the plight of women in Canadian and/or Quebec society. Not recommended for school use.
