The second book in the "Discover" series by the Royal Ontario Museum, Discover Bones is intriguing reading for inquisitive children. It is divided into three main thought-provoking themes: fascinating facts about bones, bones in history and archaeology, and varied uses of bones. The author has included a wide selection of topics certain to interest young readers and expand knowledge beyond their OWN bones.

"Were dinosaurs clumsy?" "How do your bones grow?" Questions such as these, accompanied by the cartoon-like illustrations by Tina Holdcroft, grab the reader's attention as soon as he or she looks at the cover. The well-organized format of the book will continue to hold that attention. Each topic generally covers a two-page spread. It includes an eye-catching caption such as "How Tall Will You Be," a factual, easy-to-read text, an activity such as an experiment or a recipe, and a box entitled "Bone Up," which has additional interesting facts. And to clarify the information and add further appeal to the text, every page has large black-and-white humorous illustrations. A table of Contents, a glossary, a list of the activities and experiments, and index and answers to various questions are all included.

Whether the reader is researching a specific topic such as birds, dinosaurs, or the human skeleton, or is attracted by the cover, once he or she begins perusing and reading Discover Bones, it's highly likely it'll be a difficult book to put down. It is definitely a fun-filled book to whet children's curiosity and to assist them in discovering!
