The reader follows the path of the letter from the mailbox to the truck to the conveyor belt and so on. There is even an interesting section on postal codes and how they are assigned by province. The wearing apparel of the postal worker is illustrated for each season. The story tells how postal workers double as community watchdogs and report any suspicious circumstances, such as unclaimed letters, to the local police force. The illustrator, Kim LaFave, has received numerous awards for his work in children's books. His pictures are colourful enough to appeal to young readers, but detailed enough to complement the story-line. This story is about a familiar person in a child's neighbourhood. I highly recommend it as an educational resource. Canadian Postal Workers is part of a series entitled "In My Neighbourhood," which also features stories on Canadian police officers, garbage collectors and firefighters.
