CIP Grades 3 to 5 / Ages 8 to 10 Reviewed by Catherine McInerney Volume 21 Number 1 1993 January I really enjoyed this short book, and I'm willing to bet that it will become a Halloween favourite. Ideal for the student just becoming a novel reader, this book is filled with humorous and spooky tales. The main character, the school crossing guard known as Mr. Tooth, is eerily supernatural. White reading the book, one begins to realize that the boy Hal is the only child al the school who seems to meet up with this guard. Why is it always foggy after school when Hal must cross the road? The tales in this collection come from a variety of backgrounds and range from the merely silly to the gory and scary. There is a recurring theme of disbelief in supernatural phenomena. The ending of the book is a surprise as well. A lot is packed into this short book. Highly recommended.
