Volume 21 Number 4
These two books join eight others in "Talk-about Books," a series that endeavours to show a variety of children in "natural settings." Each story uses photographs to encourage discussion about the child's world. In both books, siblings are shown engaged in a variety of co-operative activities from dressing up to reading. Clear, bright photos show young children from many cultures sharing their favourite pastimes. Although each book shows families that have more than two brothers or sisters, it is mainly pairs that are shown, from twins to siblings well spaced in age. These washable board books will appeal especially to toddlers who are themselves younger siblings, or to those who are about to become big brothers or sisters. Recommended. Patricia L.M. Butler is a freelance librarian living in Vancouver, British Columbia. |
