They've always wanted to be inventors and have spent long hours developing things like a worm picker and a washer and dryer for sand. But now they want to build something more useful - a chocolate chip cookie machine is something everyone would want! But how can it be done? After much ponder�ing, they decide to enlist the help of their less-than-eager younger siblings. The siblings magically turn into machines while they act out the pretend parts, and really do produce the cookies. The day is saved when a passing fly is swatted and the children are returned to normal. This book would have some appeal for the age group for which it was written by virtue of its interesting premise, but its wordy presentation doesn't sufficiently prepare the reader for the magical event. The drawings are cartoonlike, but are reasonably matched side by side to the text. This would be an acceptable addition to a larger collection. Patricia L.M.
