excerpt:
Extreme In-line Skating is an introduction to all areas of in-line skating. The book's contents, broken into 14 sections, provide specific information about the sport and give readers information which ranges from novice skating all the way to highly competitive performing. The book is full of bright captions and exciting pictures. The authors have provided the information in short bits, making it an easy book for readers to browse through and find just the details for which they may be looking. The opening of the book discusses the roots of in-line skating and explains how the equipment has changed over the years. In-line skating has a language of its own, and the terms are clearly defined for the beginner. Besides introducing the basics, the book goes on to name some big names in the sport and tell what is required to become part of the competitive circuit. Safety in the sport is supported through the pictures and informational pages. This book would make an excellent resource for a library or classroom. It is part of the "Extreme Sports, No Limits!" series, and the Editor-in-chief, Bobbie Kalman, has written many sport informational books. For this book, the writing team consulted the International In-line Skating Association. The book contains a table of contents as well as a concluding glossary and index. Highly Recommended. Glenys Martin is a teacher at W.P. Sandin Composite High School in Shellbrook, SK.
