excerpt:
Morgan's appeal for her parents’ help after her sister Josie "enters" her chalk drawing sets up a frantic tone that continues throughout the story as one dilemma follows upon another. To the rescue come Mom and Dad, a passerby, a neighbor, a mail carrier and an electrical worker. All are resourceful and clever in their attempts to draw something that would help Josie out of her predicaments involving a nasty lion, a dangerous waterfall, a great eagle, a giant snowball, a shark, and a tidal wave. But it is the determined Morgan who receives a deserving reward in the end. The winning combination of the talented Hutchins and Ohi have once again collaborated to design an imaginative adventure for younger readers, one full of action and humour. The fresh and high-spirited story has great child appeal. The text is enlarged in several places for emphasis and is incorporated into the story and illustrations. The charming, playful artwork serves the story well. Warm, expressive watercolours are spread across the expansive double pages and simply leap off the page. Ohi's lines are lively, evoking action and expression, in a cartoon-like fashion. This fun and inviting picture book will make a great story time addition. Recommended. Reesa Cohen is an Instructor of Children's Literature and Information Literacy at the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, MB.
