excerpt: "We're almost dinosaurs," said Sam. "Almost twin dinosaurs," said Nate. Then Nate and Sam decided to wear only green to school. "Now we're really dinosaurs," said Nate. "Pretty close," said Sam. Then Sam and Nate decided to eat only green food like sushi, green Kool-Aid and kiwis. "We're really Jurassic," said Sam. Sam and Nate tells the story of two boys in the same class who are becoming friends. They share their interests and activities, passing notes, playing together and trying to do the same projects. They studied dinosaurs, whales, and monkeys, and many facts about these animals are introduced into the story. But then their favourite teacher decides to adopt a baby and must give up teaching. A new teacher appears, a man who has never taught young children before. It takes the children a few days to get the new teacher adjusted to their needs, and then the class is happy again. While the humour in this story may appeal to young children, the author does not create a really interesting scenario. She introduces moral lessons into the narrative, such as, be a good friend, don't be bossy, don't be mean, etc. There is nothing offensive or negative in the book, but it falls flat.
