Pup and Hound and Pup and Hound Move In are sure to delight readers of all ages but are particularly suited for beginning readers. Susan Hood uses simple language and engaging rhymes to catch the reader's attention and bring a comic twist to stories of the friendship of the two dogs. Besides being fun to read, the stories teach lessons about sharing and being responsible for our actions.

In Pup and Hound, the two friends search for something to eat because Pup is hungry.

Hound looked around until he found a stick! Ick! A shoe? Ewww! A bone? Groan! Then Hound found a treat to eat. Meat! Neat!

Pup ends up eating all the meat, but Hound doesn't mind.

Never mind. Hound chewed the stick. Then Hound gave Pup a good-night lick.

In Pup and Hound Move In, Pup moves in with Hound and ends up taking over Hound's bed, food and, most drastically of all, his favorite toy, Bear. They end up fighting over it and tear it in half, a result which makes Hound howl.

Pup crept up the hill without a sound. He gave his lucky sock to Hound. Then Pup howled, too, "Ah-rut-ah-roooooooooooooo!" It sounded so funny, what could Hound do?

Wag his tail of course, and Pup is forgiven. Linda Hendry's bright and colorfully comic painted illustrations perfectly capture the misery Pup feels and the friendship re-established. Each page contains a wonderfully descriptive picture that perfectly complements the text and makes reading this book a delight.

Highly Recommended.
