The Canadian Inuit dog is the official animal of Nunavut. Teams of dogs pull a sled called a qamutik. Traditionally the sleds were from driftwood, animal bones and ivory. Snowmobiles have today mostly taken the place of dogsleds, but many people still use them for sport. Others keep sled dogs as pets.

The "Canada Close Up" series is an excellent resource for elementary grades, and the latest book in this series does not disappoint. Nunavut is divided into six chapters and covers a wide range of cultural, historical, and geographical information.

      Like the other books in this series, the information is divided into manageable paragraphs with clear, large font and a variety of colourful photographs, maps, and illustrations. The book includes a glossary and an index, but it could have benefited from a pronunciation guide. This is a minor oversight in an otherwise excellent resource.
