excerpt:
Wetland Animals is part the Who Lives Here? series by award-winning author Deborah Hodge. This title takes a brief look at how animals survive life in both hot and cool wetland climates. The books simple format starts with a brief description of a wetland habitat followed by information of nine wetland animals. Animals included are: hippopotamuses, mallard ducks, capybaras, bullfrogs, crocodiles, beavers, flamingos, anacondas and moose. Each animal is presented on a two page spread, the content of which covers where the animals live, what they eat and how they care for their young. The full-coloured illustrations are done by Pat Stephens who includes a large illustration to show the animal and their young in their wetland habitat. Also included are three small illustrations with corresponding facts explaining how each animals body is built for living in its habitat. For example, Big webbed feet work like paddles to push the duck though the water. A table of contents, a glossary of animal words and notes for parents and teachers are also included. Wetland Animals provides a good introduction to wetlands and the animals who live there. It is a excellent book for early years. The realistic illustrations, simple facts and language make this an ideal choice for its audience. Recommended. Vanessa Sobkovich-Wiebe can be found at the Springfield Public Library in Dugald, MB.
