Mélanie Watt's wonderfully wacky "Scaredy Squirrel" series is well-known and loved among the preschool and primary age set. You're Finally Here features a needy and impatient bunny who has been kept waiting for an indeterminate (and seemingly interminable) length of time. It appears he has been waiting for the arrival of the reader. Highly Recommended. A retired teacher-librarian, Valerie Nielsen lives in Winnipeg, MB.

Upon the reader's arrival, at first there is excitement. Then there is a pressing question that needs to be answered: "BUT WHERE WERE YOU?" asks the bunny. As the story proceeds, he lets the reader know how LONG he has waited ("...long enough to learn an accordion solo"), how BORED he has been ("...bored up to my ears"), how UNFAIR it is to be kept waiting (...as unfair as having to eat a brussel sprout") how annoying it is to wait ("...as annoying as having toilet paper stuck to my foot") and finally how RUDE it is to make him wait ("...as rude as sticking gum under the sofa.) The bunny's next step is to enforce the reader's constant attention by having him sign a contract promising to stay with him forever and ever. A clever twist at the end of the story will have readers of all ages chuckling and adults picking up on the author's critique of a very modern-day source of irritation.
