excerpt:
Baby Play is a board book that shows a much-loved, happy baby enjoying a busy day. Baby’s parents narrate the story in rhyme, reinforcing their love for him/her. This simple, glossy 12-page book has full-sized pictures of the baby on one side, with the text and pictures of small toys on a white background on the opposite page. Babies and toddlers will identify with the endearing baby who does just what most babies do, including sucking thumbs and playing peek-a-boo in the bathtub. Education about the increasing diversity of our society can never start early enough – the baby is the focus of the pictures, but we also see the mom and dad and learn that the family is biracial. Baby Play will make a welcome baby gift. Board books are an excellent way to introduce the habit of reading to children. This book will help make reading a regular habit as well as help build and strengthen the bond between parent and child. Recommended. Harriet Zaidman is a teacher-librarian in Winnipeg, MB.
