excerpt:
The Captive Prince is the third book of Scott Chantler's Three Thieves graphic novel series that also includes Tower of Treasure and The Sign of the Black Rock. This instalment finds Dessa, Topper and Fisk still on the run from the Queens guards. While hiding As with the previous two novels, The Captive Prince is fast-paced and full of excitement with plenty of daring escapes and close calls for the three protagonists. Dessas character is developed more fully in this book, and much of the story focuses on her. The book is humorous, and the detailed illustrations often contribute to the humour and the momentum of the plot. The Captive Prince maintains the high quality of the first two books in the Three Thieves series. It is well illustrated with good characterization and an action-filled plot. The Captive Prince, which does work as a stand-alone read, is an excellent choice for fans of fantasy and adventure stories and is a highly recommended purchase for public and school libraries. Highly Recommended. Tara Stieglitz is a librarian at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, AB.
