excerpt:
Part of the “Tadpoles Tales” series, The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a straightforward telling of the classic fable. With short sentences and repetitive text, this book is perfect for emergent readers. The watercolour illustrations pair well with the text, giving young readers visual clues to understand the words they are reading. The lesson of this fable is communicated effectively using both illustrations and text. The story is followed by two extension activities: six pictures for sequencing and character pictures to pair with adjectives. Below the cataloguing information is a bubble giving basic information about fables and challenging the reader to figure out the lesson of this particular story. This bubble is a useful addition in that readers (whether they are aware or not) are trained to look at all pages for information. Highly Recommended. Kate Hachborn is a library technician at the W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford, ON.
