excerpt:
Hey Little Baby! is a story of a mother and father welcoming their new baby into the world. While the simple patterned text identifies the child's newly discovered senses, the illustrations cleverly capture the parents' imaginations of how he will apply his discoveries. For example, under the question of what he will smell with his darling nose, there is a sweet scene of a boy sharing a posie of flowers with a girl - a reflection of the hope and anticipation parents have for their children as they develop in babyhood. Many new parents will enjoy sharing this book with their little ones because it captures the thrill parents have when they watch their children make early self discoveries. The simple watercolour illustrations and effective use of space and text will also appeal to babies and toddlers. Hey Little Baby! is a book for new parents and toddlers as well as for most preschool collections. Recommended. Christina Neigel is teaching faculty for the Library and Information Technology Program at the University of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford, BC.
