THE THEME FOR CANADIAN CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK is Every Child a
Reader. Touring Manitoba for Book Week, from November 2 - 9, will be
award-winning artist Vladyana Kryorka, illustrator of picture books such
as A Promise Is a Promise; Winnipeg-born writer and poet
Rhea Tregebov, author of The Big Storm (set in Winnipeg
circa 1930); and new local children's writers Deb Froese, author of
The Wise Washerwoman, and Margaret Shaw-MacKinnon, author of
Tiktala.
Applications for
one-hour readings during Children's Book Week at schools and public
libraries are now being accepted. Preference will be given to members of
the Canadian Children's Book Centre, as well as on a first-come,
first-served basis. Every attempt will be made to include as many areas
of Manitoba as possible. Schools and libraries in rurul and northern
Manitoba are encouraged to apply. Reading fees will likely be the same as
in previous years ($50 per reading for schools; public libraries to share
the cost of meals and accomodations on the day of their reading,
no reading fee).
